Bowron Lake Resort is a huge resort with lots of room for us all, and is set in an incredibly beautiful area. It is surrounded by mountains, on the shore of a beautiful lake, and has a river flowing around the end of the resort. We couldn’t ask for a more beautiful place for our reunion.
I want to reiterate the fact that this resort is in “rustic” condition. Please plan as if you were tenting, as the cabins are unheated and stoves don’t work. They have electricity & flush toilets. Heated showers are available in the shower houses, but again, in rustic condition. Please remember to bring heaters, if you have young children. You must bring your own bedding, and cooking utensils, pots, dishes, grills, etc.
The weather in the mountains can be windy, rainy, snowy & cold or absolutely perfect. Please be prepared with appropriate clothing for all conditions.
You are responsible for your own food, methods of cooking and preparation, as we haven’t charged a reunion fee. We are all pooling together for a family dinner on Saturday night.
Items to Remember
Clothing for all weather,
Bedding, flashlight
Towels & toilettries
Cooking pans, utensils, can opener, grills, barbecues, etc.
Food for the weekend
Money for Barkerville
Fishing supplies
Camp chairs
Matches, drinking water, bug spray, first Aid supplies, etc.
If you are camping, all supplies.
Driving Instructions to the Resort
Go south from PG to Quesnel, turning left on Hyway 26 to Barkerville. Go past Wells then turn left on the Bowron Lake Park Road just before Barkerville. Drive to the end of this road and you’ll be at the resort.
Barkerville Prices for Sunday Activity
Official Website: www.barkerville.ca
Note: Theatre Royal live shows are at 7pm only.
Prices on Individual Activities, not in package.
Gold Panning – Everyone $7.50
Stage Coach Rides – Everyone $7.00 – 5 & Under Free
Show – Adult $14.50, Senior $12.50, Youth (13-18) $12.50, Child (6-12) $7.50, 5 & Under Free
Food is available in Barkerville. It might be pricy, so if you are worried about cost, pack your meals for the day or how-ever long you wish to stay. Most people will be driving home Sunday night. Some of us aren’t leaving until Monday morning, so we will drive back to the resort after our day in Barkerville.
If anyone has questions regarding anything to do with the reunion, please contact either Jen or myself before we leave on the Friday, July 30th. Please plan carefully, and that will ensure things run smoothly. We want to try to avoid last minute emergencies due to lack of planning.
ARRIVAL AT BOWRON LAKE-REUNION
Upon your arrival at the Bowron Lake Resort, please look for Jen, Jim or myself for your Reunion Information Package . We will keep an eye out for everyone near the office. If you are camping, just go find a spot and we’ll find you. Friday night is just a time to visit, hang out, explore or do your own thing.
Please remember everything you need for your assigned activity or responsibility. We are counting on you doing your part. Also, please remember your assigned food item for our Saturday Night Family Pot luck Barbecue. Thanks in advance.
SEE YOU ALL AT THE REUNION……

April/May Update
Shaw Family Reunion 2010
April/May Update
70 days to Go
On the last day of March, after I had emailed Bowran Lake Resort with the final details of everyone’s accommodation choices, I got a phone call from one of the owners of the resort. I had to spent the entire day “copying and pasting” all my previous emails to the resort for verification of our reservations.. Unfortunately the person I was dealing with, had not kept any record of our reservations. The owner spent the day reorganizing all of her bookings to accommodate us. Due to poor economic times, the resort is in very “rustic Condition.” Everyone needs to know that the cabins have no heat, no hot water or the stoves aren’t hooked up to propane. There is, however, electricity in all cabins, so you can bring electric heaters. The resort also has hot showers in the shower houses. For cooking, you can bring portable cook stoves, plug in ranges, grills, barbecues and nuwave ovens. All cabins and Motel rooms have no bedding, so you need to bring your own.
NOTE: There are no more cabins available. There are a couple spare campsites reserved and sleeping units in the “rustic Motel” up top. The new prices indicate the rustic quality of the cabins. Sales tax is extra.
Confirmed Accommodations
Mom & Dad-Motel room-$50 per night- Sat. night only - Room #15 There are no kitchettes in the motel, they are just sleeping units.

We hope everyone has received their family assignments and Pot Luck food item for our Saturday family barbecue. Please contact us if you have any questions.
Jim will be getting together a “Barkerville Activity Price List”, so everyone can plan what activities they can afford on our day trip to Barkerville. Most of us will be purchasing most of our food in Barkerville on Sunday. Remember, your food is your responsibility.
We need again remind people to plan this weekend like you plan a camping trip. Whether you are in the cabins or camping, you will need bedding/ toiletry/ all food and cooking supplies, drinking water and clothing for a varied climate. Remember, the resort is in the mountains and could be cold. You will also need camp chairs, fishing poles, boats, cameras and the supplies for your assigned activity.
Things we will need bringing to the reunion: For those who have a pickup, we will need several barbecues, tables and chairs. If you can help, please let us know. I can provide all the tables. We need at least one more barbecue and camp chairs.
Until next month’s update

Shaw Family Reunion 2010 March Update.
Hi everyone
Only 5 Months Left! Our reunion is fast approaching, but things are coming together. We now have the activities planned and will be mailing everyone their assignments. Please plan your assignment well, with diligence and be reliable and responsible. We, as a family, are counting on everyone to do their individual part and pull together to make this event fun and memorable. The saying, “When you are prepared, you shall not fear,” is applicable here. We will plan for success and come rain or shine, will have a great time making new family memories.
This month’s NOTE for your planning.
When considering what to bring for this event, think of convenience and possibly rain, cold wind, snow, or hot sunny weather. The resort is situated on Bowran Lake in the mountains and is very isolated. The weather is unpredictable.
Disposable utensils will be great, else you could be boiling water to wash all your dishes. Then you would have to bring dish soap……..Umbrellas and rain coats will protect against the rain. Extra sweaters, coats and blankets for the cold and shorts, T-shirts and bathing suits for the sun.
You will need your own blankets, pillows and cooking utensils for the cabins. Remember, these cabins are “rustic”, so be prepared.
Don’t forget matches, soap, towels, coolers, camp chairs, cook stoves, drinking water and all your food , treats. Also, cameras, fishing poles, quads, canoes, blow up boats, air mattresses, mountain bikes or whatever equipment you might like to bring. We will post a handy weekend equipment & camp supplies list in July.
We still need people to let us know how many nights they will be staying and also whether you will be tenting or staying in a cabin or motel room.
Until next month, love & best wishes!

February Update
Hi everyone;
Only 6 months until our Family Reunion, How exciting! Time is just flying by. We have updated and simplified our Shaw Family Reunion 2010 plans. Jen and I are both too busy to prepare all the food and activities and try and collect money from everyone. We have decided to have everyone bring your own food, cooking supplies and utensils. If everyone plans this event like a long weekend camping trip, things should go well. As a family, we can then all pool together and bring food for one big family supper, on Saturday night.
The cost will be kept to a minimum. We won’t have to charge a “Reunion Fee”. You will be responsible for your own accommodation costs and your own food, an assigned food item for our collective Saturday night family meal, admission into Barkervile and meals you choose to purchase there, along with any additional activities you may wish to do. ie, boat rentals on lake or any activities in. A lot of us want to spent the entire afternoon and evening in Barkerville, so we’ll eat there. For those who don’t want to stay in Barkerville that late, you can return to camp at your leisure and cook your own supper.
We will also assign different adult family members activities to be responsible for. You would be responsible for keeping order in your event and having it run smoothly, fitting into the reunion atmosphere. We want to avoid contention at all costs, so if we are well-prepared, all should go well. We will post an activity schedule once all assignments have been made. We would like you to provide everything to run that activity. Ie, If the activity you are assigned is “children’s face painting” You would be responsible to organize it, provide the face paint and clean up materials, do pictures or whatever was needed to make this activity a great event. We are trying to run all the activities in groups, so we have lots of free time in between to just relax.
We won’t be renting a covered patio tent, as the cost to the family is aprox. $200-$250.00. The resort has reserved us one “rustic covered picnic area next to the camp sites. We will set up a barbecue here and a few craft tables/camp chairs. Check out the pics of our blog and you will see the covered picnic area reserved for us, right besides our 6 reserved campsites.
Below is the reserved accommodations so far that have been confirmed. We still need the number of nights you will be staying. In a couple of months you will be required to give the resort a visa number to hold your spot. We will keep everyone informed as to when that is needed.
Mom & Dad-Motel Cabin up top ($65 per night – 1 double bed)
