April/May Update

Shaw Family Reunion 2010

April/May Update

70 days to Go

On the last day of March, after I had emailed Bowran Lake Resort with the final details of everyone’s accommodation choices, I got a phone call from one of the owners of the resort. I had to spent the entire day “copying and pasting” all my previous emails to the resort for verification of our reservations.. Unfortunately the person I was dealing with, had not kept any record of our reservations. The owner spent the day reorganizing all of her bookings to accommodate us. Due to poor economic times, the resort is in very “rustic Condition.” Everyone needs to know that the cabins have no heat, no hot water or the stoves aren’t hooked up to propane. There is, however, electricity in all cabins, so you can bring electric heaters. The resort also has hot showers in the shower houses. For cooking, you can bring portable cook stoves, plug in ranges, grills, barbecues and nuwave ovens. All cabins and Motel rooms have no bedding, so you need to bring your own.

NOTE: There are no more cabins available. There are a couple spare campsites reserved and sleeping units in the “rustic Motel” up top. The new prices indicate the rustic quality of the cabins. Sales tax is extra.

We hope everyone has received their family assignments and Pot Luck food item for our Saturday family barbecue. Please contact us if you have any questions.

Jim will be getting together a “Barkerville Activity Price List”, so everyone can plan what activities they can afford on our day trip to Barkerville. Most of us will be purchasing most of our food in Barkerville on Sunday. Remember, your food is your responsibility.

We need again remind people to plan this weekend like you plan a camping trip. Whether you are in the cabins or camping, you will need bedding/ toiletry/ all food and cooking supplies, drinking water and clothing for a varied climate. Remember, the resort is in the mountains and could be cold. You will also need camp chairs, fishing poles, boats, cameras and the supplies for your assigned activity.

Things we will need bringing to the reunion: For those who have a pickup, we will need several barbecues, tables and chairs. If you can help, please let us know. I can provide all the tables. We need at least one more barbecue and camp chairs.

Until next month’s update
