February Update

Hi everyone;

Only 6 months until our Family Reunion, How exciting! Time is just flying by. We have updated and simplified our Shaw Family Reunion 2010 plans. Jen and I are both too busy to prepare all the food and activities and try and collect money from everyone. We have decided to have everyone bring your own food, cooking supplies and utensils. If everyone plans this event like a long weekend camping trip, things should go well. As a family, we can then all pool together and bring food for one big family supper, on Saturday night.

The cost will be kept to a minimum. We won’t have to charge a “Reunion Fee”. You will be responsible for your own accommodation costs and your own food, an assigned food item for our collective Saturday night family meal, admission into Barkervile and meals you choose to purchase there, along with any additional activities you may wish to do. ie, boat rentals on lake or any activities in. A lot of us want to spent the entire afternoon and evening in Barkerville, so we’ll eat there. For those who don’t want to stay in Barkerville that late, you can return to camp at your leisure and cook your own supper.

We will also assign different adult family members activities to be responsible for. You would be responsible for keeping order in your event and having it run smoothly, fitting into the reunion atmosphere. We want to avoid contention at all costs, so if we are well-prepared, all should go well. We will post an activity schedule once all assignments have been made. We would like you to provide everything to run that activity. Ie, If the activity you are assigned is “children’s face painting” You would be responsible to organize it, provide the face paint and clean up materials, do pictures or whatever was needed to make this activity a great event. We are trying to run all the activities in groups, so we have lots of free time in between to just relax.

We won’t be renting a covered patio tent, as the cost to the family is aprox. $200-$250.00. The resort has reserved us one “rustic covered picnic area next to the camp sites. We will set up a barbecue here and a few craft tables/camp chairs. Check out the pics of our blog and you will see the covered picnic area reserved for us, right besides our 6 reserved campsites.

Below is the reserved accommodations so far that have been confirmed. We still need the number of nights you will be staying. In a couple of months you will be required to give the resort a visa number to hold your spot. We will keep everyone informed as to when that is needed.
